AMAZING GRACE

She had a dirty face.

And a missing arm.

Her dress has seen better days.

You see her cap?

Look there, on the left side.

You see the red cross?

She must have been a nurse.

World War II, you think?

I do.

She called to me at Warrenton.

She must have known I was a health-care worker, too.

I named her Grace. As in Amazing.

She made the trip back with me, and now sits in my locker at work.

To inspire.

and encourage.

And to remind....

That those of us who tend to the

sick

and dying

and the imperfect in body

Have our own imperfections, too.

A good reminder.

One I need at times.

Like today.

Thank you, Grace.

  2. Annie, she is beautiful and you only have given her a purpose, a great meaning. I hope you know most of the people you take care of are thankful. Go to your patients with a smile, always, you will make their day. I have not blog in so many days due to have the family baby in PICU for a week now. I stayed with him last night and let me tell you, those nurses, doctors and RTs are amazing, you can tell they care. So be happy Annie, you are making a difference in this world. When you feel down think about the gift you have been given and go and shine. Blessings, Marta.

  3. Hi Anne, What a good inspiration for life. I want to thank you for your thoughts concerning my friend who passed away in Panama. His wife is still there trying to get him home. What a nightmare for her.
I hope you enjoy your day!

  4. Well ladybug - whatever imperfections you might have - I just don't see 'em 'cause I like you:
    just.
    the.
    way.
    you.
    are.

yep! The doll is SO cute! Meant to be - that's what I say! AND! I'm totally in awe of you "the health care worker" as I am of "you the junkster". Now... what's up with the hand in the picture? I need that.

I am a little "skeert" that you hear doll voices calling out across cow pastures and all... i'm just sayin'.

    ;-) xoxo

I know how hard those "days" can be..I've been there. What an awesome reminder of our duty and our calling.

You can do it and I know you will...imperfections and all.
I'm just a phonecall and a mason jar away!!!

  6. Anne, I love your banner. I recently aquired one of those frogs, I love them now and always seem drawn to them. I have passed up a few cause I thought they wanted too much for them, but now wishing I had them. What is it about them? I am definitely drawn to them. Smiles, Marla

  14. Dear Anne,I guess that your kind of work, must be very difficult sometimes, and it is importent for you to remember, that noone are perfect alwayes. What`s importent is kindness and compassion, and I`m sure that you with your sweet, and generous spirit ,are offering lots of that to the people you tend to.

  15. I love her. I am sure you've become fast friends. Oh Anne, you mentioned you had Husky’s. I adore the breed. My friend has two and works with Husky rescue. They are very loving. You asked if mine were Greyhounds. Actually there are FOUR Italian Greyhounds, MUCH smaller. They normally get to about 8-14 pounds. Mine are all freakishly tall and weigh in around 18-24lbs. My Whippet is 35lbs. Greyhounds are awesome, but they are not at affectionate as the little Italians. I prefer a needy dog-ha.

  21. Isn't Grace just the sweetest little girl ever.
I'm so glad you took her home with you. Isn't it funny how sometimes an object calls to us for a reason. Maybe she wanted to help give you strength in your job. A job that is so demanding and requires much compassion.

She wants to be with you and now she is.

    hugs
