Houses We Didn't Buy

As you all know, we just bought a new house,
and we're due to close on August 11th.
Yay!

But the road to the house we did  buy wasn't a straight path,
it was circuitous, as most house hunts tend to be.

I thought I'd share with you some photos I snapped
of a few other properties we looked at along the way.

Today I'll be featuring one that almost  made the cut,
but due to a few variables, lost out in the end.
It's still a lovely home, and I could easily have seen myself there.

Enjoy the tour!
And don't forget to click twice on all pics to super-size them!

Another great front door.
And yep, this house is also located
in my new hometown, Fredericksburg, Texas.

I didn't get a really good, head-on shot of the house,
so here's a screen capture of the listing to give you an idea...

It's a darling Victorian, just like the other two,
and has some serious charm happening inside.
Let's take a look.

The owners definitely have a funky decorating vibe going on here,
just look at the Craftsman tool chest being used as a TV stand on the left. Love it!

Charming country kitchen.

Door leading to large covered porch just off the kitchen.

Heading upstairs....

There are two bedrooms upstairs, but I absolutely
fell head over heels in love with the master bedroom....

Get a load of that fabulous exposed brick!

I mean, you can hardly call this just a bedroom....it's like a suite!

And the outside spaces are every bit as charming
as what we've seen indoors...

But the pièce de résistance of the outdoor spaces was this...

An utterly amazing outdoor shower!!!

So there you have it, the house we didn't choose.
I have no doubt that this will make someone a fantastic home,
but there were just certain factors that made it less than a perfect fit for us.

I hope you enjoyed the tour!

Have a beautiful Friday!

  1. It has gas heaters (old ones) like we have in our pre-civil war house. They are awful to decorate around. Have a splendid weekend Anne.

  8. Hey my sweet Anne,
Your blog is making me jones for a new house. Excuse me....farmhouse. I'm asking Kevin to transfer to Austin. Or better yet Kerrville, Fredricksburg. I'm glad you chose the house of twig, it rocks the hardest. Now you just need to close, move, fix it up & you can write your first book. Lisa

  11. Hi Anne,

I love looking around houses and thanks for the tour.
This house is lovely, but the one you bought is so much better.
The outdoor shower is fun, you would not want any pepping Toms though.

    Have a lovely weekend

  13. Not to say that this house isn't cute, cuz it is...really really cute...but your house blows this one away. I adore your house. It has so much charm and it doesn't look like it needs as much (if any) elbow grease as this one.

  14. If I had to choose this one or the ONE you get to move into... I would choose the one you are moving into. I think you guys made the right choice - this one is fabulous but those transom windows you have are to die for!

  25. Hi Anne, what a great house this is too, but you certainly have the right one for you and will be closing very, very soon. What a wonderful move that will be. Your house is going to be beautiful, even if you feel you have less space. As it is, we fill our home up with things we don't really, really need -- so your purging and simplifying is a way to clean and clear and allow so much more beauty into your world. Of course, by all the photos you've posted in your past many posts, it seems you are surrounded by beauty on a daily basis. And that is a wonderful place to be. Best wishes, Tammy

  32. Oh, I too, love the outdoor shower. I'm dying to know why its there? What caused them to build it? How incredibly cute.

  33. If you were on one of those tv home sellers shows, the reason you did not choose this one is because it was cluttered with personal objects, you could not see your own furniture working in here, the wall colors are all wrong... get some imagination people!
I bought our old farmhouse more with my heart than with my head and now, after I have "decorated" it (lived in look) no one else will ever want it by those rules.
Which is OK with me, I am here for the long haul.
Now I have to find the post showing your real dream house.

  34. Now I have to agree with the others - you DID choose the better house, paint colors and all.
I am curious about all the drama over the other house, (I didn't get to read everything,) and the studio was to die for, but you will create a studio in the much better house.
