A Common Vision

You know one of the
best feelings in the world?

When someone "gets" you...

When you meet someone who
shares a common outlook,
or who sees things through
the same lens, so to speak.
{ pun intended }

I have just such a person
in the form of my best friend, Tom.

You remember Tom, don't you?
You first met him here
when I introduced him as my new photography / stylist
assistant on any big, upcoming photo shoots.

Tom has an incredible eye,
and I've been sort of indoctrinating him into
the wonderful world of vintage inspired photography.

It's been a lot of fun, introducing him to my world,
and teaching him what to look for.

My edumacating him on the differences between tulle, tole and toile
was worth the price of admission all by itself!

All of these photos you're seeing
were taken during our most recent walkabout
at Fredericksburg Trade Days.

And you know what else?

Of the 11 images I'm showing you in the post,
Tom took 8 and I took 3.

True, all the editing and post-processing
was done by yours truly, but I am happily
surprised to discover that our styles are merging so seamlessly...

that it's hard to tell our work apart at times.
{ I know but I'm not telling }

We have mighty big things planned
in the days and weeks ahead,
so I hope you'll follow our adventures!

And you?

Who is your  creative kindred spirit?
I'd love to know!

XO,

  5. Ahhhh, that's the wonderful thing about blogging, you can find your kindred spirit even if they live in another country!!

So cool to be able to work with a kindred spirit .

  6. Oh I love adventures! The photos are just beautiful. I'm a little jealous that you have someone to work with who shares your passion, who 'gets' you. Most of my creative kindrid spirits are online, but it would be so fun to find one close to me. That's one of the downfalls of living in a small rural community.

  7. I agree with vintage green...technology makes it easy to find inspiration quickly...and can make you feel not so alone in your fancies. But the real joy is finding real tangible people who share a common ground. Love your guys' photos! I have that big brown fish...it's on our armoire...from our honeymoon in Jamaica! Have a great day!

  16. I loved this post, and of course the beautiful photographs that go with it. It's kind of funny, one of my best friends is a married guy. We've been buddies forever. He puts out a little newspaper here in Old Towne Orange where my store is. The website is www.orangereview.com We share a lot of vision, thoughts, and friendship! Thanks for such a great post!

    Take care, Sue

  17. For me that would be my soul mate and best friend, Mark. We have know each other for 32 years and married for 28. We actually know what the other is thinking and we each say it at the same time. I know, that's weird but it's true. We are just so connected. And we both LOVE doing home remodeling projects. People actually come to us for advice on their projects.
Thanks Anne. Your hubby sounds great!

  18. Oh my gosh!!! I so needed this right now and I was going to write to you to get your opinion as you really are an inspiration to me! I have the opportunity to intern with a photographer here in my town. I would do a lot of grunt work for free, but would be learning about all aspects of the business. The kicker is I would have to sign a two year non-competition clause. I am so ready to run with starting my own, but I know that I have so much to learn. I would love any feedback you give me!

  20. There is nothing like finding a true kindred spirit, is there Anne with and "e"?

And wow - I can't even begin to guess which photos are yours and which are his! They are all beautiful. You are both so talented!

  21. I forgot the comma after "is there" so my sentence above probably makes no sense....although perhaps even despite my typo you probably did get Green Gables reference! =)

  22. Love your compositions..very interesting and eye catching! And, yes, it is so refreshing when someone "gets you"! One can tell immediately whether they do or not! enjoying your blog....dix---

  23. I look forward to seeing more of what you and Tom do in your collaboration.

Since you asked, I found MY kindred spirit, Robert, online (where else) on a rose forum. He invited other rose gardeners to visit his garden one spring, and I went with a couple of other ladies (who I had also never met in person). Robert and I immediately connected and began talking as if we were old friends. When the day was over, we vowed to stay in touch ... and we have become wonderful friends to eachother. We have seen each other through personal tragedy and celebrated our successes. Robert does garden things with me while my husband is doing his own thing ... in fact my husband calls Robert my 'garden husband'. Everyone needs a partner in crime.

It's weird to see 'Fredericksburg' here, and it takes me a minute to comprehend that you mean TEXAS, not VIRGINIA where I live.

  27. Great pics - whoever took them! I was especially interested in the doll head. Was that all there was of the poor doll? As an artist who has completed many "reborn dolls" (they look like real babies when finished), I'm always tempted to rescue one like that!

    Blessings,

  31. You always have that great combination of beautiful images and humor! The lesson in tulle, tole and toile had me imagining all the laughter that must have followed. What a great partnership with Tom, it does appear to be virtually seamless and gorgeous! xoxo ~Lili

Are you two the next Fifi and Mark?

  33. Yours is either 1, 2, 3 in the order of pictures. Or the truck, the coupling drawers and the baseball hat in the metal rusted thingies. One of those combos.
