One Week

One week
since I last posted.

Time flies.

I wish I could report that I've been engaged in
some manner of
thrilling adventures and escapades,
but the truth is...

I've been reading.
Yep, reading.

Well, not  just  reading, as I work a full-time job.
But the bulk of my free time
has been spent on my new 3G Kindle,
a most thoughtful birthday gift from a dear friend.

Been taking in the classics
and some old favorites.

But mostly, been spending time immersed in
spiritual reading. The scriptures mainly, seeking answers,
guidance and peace.

Just slowing down and indulging in a bit of "me" time.
No crime in that, right?

Maybe I'll see you all again before another week passes.
Maybe not.
That's the beauty of my life these days.

My terms.
Blogging without obligation.

Realizing that life is way too short and precious
to ever do otherwise again.

Happy Week!

  16. The Lord will provide all you need, because He promises to do so! You are a blessing to me, Anne, I hope you know, and I pray you are being blessed by His Word. You really need this time, and I am glad you are taking it. Blogging is a joy, but sometimes we need to just rest in Him. I am looking forward to getting into our new home soon, so that i can have more quiet time with Him; we are living in our daughter's basement for now: 1 month down and about 1 month to go! Let the sunshine in!!

    Love to you,
    Laurie

  25. I can't remember the last time I read a book. And I used to read all the time. Loving your new blogging attitude. Do it when you can and when you want to. That's the way it was meant to be.

  28. Happy Birthday! I agree that blogging should be without obligation, and there is a blog made for that purpose, so you can get a button your blog, that says so, that way people know it.
You can click on mine, to get there.
Also ME time is very important!!

However, The "kindles" of this world are putting printers and many employees of publishing houses out of business. Soon, there will be no need for books, you showed beautiful pictures of old books, so I assume books are important to you. As your overall love for old things shows in photo after photo. As an honest person, I have to say this is disappointing. It bothers me when anyone purchases these devices, as they do not see what damage it is going to do to our culture, the loss of jobs etc. I always speak up. So don't take it personally. My father was a printer, of textbooks. Hitler burned books. Did you ever read Fahrenheit 451?

But, I have to say, you being the lover of all things old, trying to keep them in our lives and alive, finding uses for them; have totally shocked me. I never thought you would be one of the people to buy into this destroyer of the written word.

I am missing 3 bones, several ligaments, a bit of muscle and have permanent nerve damage in my left wrist. I love to read, I can only hold a book for a few pages before my wrist and hand are burning with pain. So I totally "get" that it is thin and light. I will not buy one, even though with my disabilities (there is muscle missing in my right elbow, and both shoulders have impingement syndrome) I would be the perfect candidate to use one, but I never will. I use my brace, take a pain pill or just suck it up. I have been told eventually that wrist MUST be fused, which will make holding a book even harder. I still will not buy one. They make book stands, pyramid pills that hold books etc.
My niece has MS, and though I know this progressive disease is unpredictable, and at any time she can have issues with her arms. However since being DXed, she has had issues with her one lower leg, occasionally 1 thumb, and her face and eye. She purchased one. She also loved my father, her grandfather. I reminded her that he was a printer, and asked about all the books that wouldn't get printed. She is an educated woman like you. She is an attorney, but she admitted to me,that she never thought about it. She just thought it was "neat" and "cool" to have so many books in one small place. She further admitted if she had taken the time to think about it, she wouldn't have bought one. I do not know if I believe her or not. I took her sentence of "having all these "books" in one handy place, and reminded her that they are not "Books".

Anne you refer to me as friend, and I also about you, so I hope you can understand my honesty here, and take it as something I am just passionate about and sharing.

I have been thinking about you, and your little "package" is ready to mail and is going out on Friday.
I hope your grieving is lightening up some, and that you are feeling better.
    hugs,
    Susan

  29. Anne, the "Me" time is definitely a necessity right now. I'm glad you are following your instincts on that. Love the old books. I collect them. And read them. The authors 100 years ago wrote so differently. Of course, the authors 2000 years ago wrote the best. God bless you.

    hugs,
    patty

  33. I am a little scared to get a kindle...then who would wash our clothes? Not me that's for sure! I can't kep books in the house...read, pass on, read, pass on...or if I even see one...Annie will be wearing stinky uniform pants to school for sure...

But you...read on girl...your so cute you'd probably even look good in dirty clothes if it comes to that! :)

  34. Whoever decided blogging should be an obligation should be taken outside and right clicked. In fact, how much more would we all get done if we would just turn our computers off one day a week? Oh the possibilities are endless.

  50. Good for you, Anne. After my husband passed away almost 7 years ago, I started reading Streams in the Desert by Mrs. Charles Cowman. My copy is dated 1925 and it is precious to me. It's got 365 days of beautiful, thought-provoking, encouraging, uplifting, challenging writings and I read it over and over, year after year. It has helped me make sense of all the things that seem impossible to understand. I loved your post today and will pray God's love song lifts your spirit and soothes your pain.

  53. What a wonderful post!!! I left blogging after some years because to me it felt like an obligation and I was taking precious time away from my family. I just started blogging again recently, but now I feel as though it's on my own terms.

Your shelf of antique book inspires me... I have a similar shelf in our livingroom. (And the first book I open when I need "me" time is the Scriptures as well.) ;)
