Remember this pretty girl?
That's our baby, Belle.
Well, not really a baby. She's 10 years old, which technically
makes her an old gal.
I can relate.

This past Thanksgiving, Belle lost her right eye in a tragic
scuffle with our other pup.

Ouch.

He is happily reunited with his former owners,
and our old girl Belle is carrying on as if
nothing ever happened.
Ahhh, to only be that resilient myself.

She is forever smiling and winking at us,
which serves as a constant reminder not to
sweat the small stuff.
News Flash: Ultimately, it's all small stuff.

Hug your fur babies today. :-)

  11. Anne,

I am so happy to read that Belle has healed. I had an adventure this weekend that if not for my little Rat Terrier Scout, I would have ended up in a hospital.

  19. animals are so resiliant! My cousin's retriever had to have a front leg amputated from cancer, and he was still just as fast in the parkchasing balls with only three legs!

  20. Awww, and her eye IS smiling. We found a cat in a parking lot when I was a kid that was missing a leg and an eye, and that was the best darn cat ever!

  21. I remember reading your post when it happened and crying buckets. And then I went and hugged my two fur babies for ages. Belle is beautiful and always will be and her wonderful character shines through her one eye just as well as it did through two.

  30. I always hug my fur baby. He can' get away fast enough. He's a very independent kitty during the day, but always ends up laying on me at night.

  31. Oh my... I somehow hopped over to your blog today (I can't even remember how... maybe a Pinterest image or something). How timely... I just brought home a rescue Husky and we are having some issues with her and our older Husky girl (herself a rescue). We are trying to work through their issues with them and are hoping for good results, but the photos of your sweet Belle break my heart. Have already had my sweet Shiner at the vet for an eye injury. This new girl is our fourth Husky and the first one we've ever had any issues with. Your story reminds me that we need to be so very careful. I'm so happy for you that Belle is recovering. She is a beautiful girl!

Husky Hugs to you all... Sonja

  34. INDEED...we all NEED to remember it is all small stuff!

    Animals and children...very resilient!
we had a kitty that got scratched by his brother right down the center of his eyeball. he lost his sight, but the doc said the slit would heal (and it did)...up close it only looked a little different but in photos, it didn't have that "retinal glow" like the other eye.
he is gone now ::sigh:: like so many of my fur babies.
My "pretty" kitty gets hugged a lot, and the 2 grand-fur babies (cat and dog)

Awesome post, thanks for sharing the pics...I have asked often about belle, as you might remember :)
love and hugs to all of you,
    Susan
