Here it is, the post where you either say
"Oh my gosh! I can totally relate! That's MY sneaky, shameful, guilty pleasure too!"
or....
You shake your head in amazement, go "tsk, tsk", and promptly become an un-follower of this blog.
I have a few guilty pleasures which I unabashedly enjoy.
They are not the least bit intellectually edifying, and more than likely cause me to leak brain cells with each exposure.
They are not the least bit intellectually edifying, and more than likely cause me to leak brain cells with each exposure.
Still, I am unapologetic...I own my shallowness with regards to these mental bon bon's, and to those of you who can proudly boast a steady diet of C-Span, PBS, and High Fiber Foods, a great, big, fat Huzzah! to you.
Guilty Pleasure Number One:
Please, make yourself comfy and join my husband on the "why does she watch this crap?" settee!
"The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love"", wherein 25 fame-ho gals act out their marriage-rescue fantasies on a guy they've just met.
I ask you, what's not to love?
Do I think this show is contrived? Absolutely.
Do I think that each season's Bachelor is tool-ier than the last? Without a doubt.
Do I understand why Bachelor Jake is keeping the skanky Vienna over other, classier gals? Heck no!
Will I watch next season's chosen Bachelor wash, rinse and repeat this formula? Need you ask?
Guilty Pleasure Number Two:
General Hospital...a show ostensibly about the goings-on in an urban hospital, and yet in recent years has devolved into a third-rate Sopranos homage. The Gummi-Bear Mob, led by ruthless kingpin with a heart-o-gold (is there any other kind?) Sonny Corinthos, are the centerpiece of the venerable ABC soap.
Is it all mob, all the time? Pretty much.
Is good old Luke Spencer still around? You betcha!
In fact, the latest super couple in the making is Lulu and Dante .... the daughter of Luke and Laura and the newly discovered, undercover cop, adult son of....duh-duh-duh...SONNY CORINTHOS!!! OMG, as they say!
Yep, my DVR has a permanent date with this silly soap, and I gobble it up like so much cotton candy.
Guilty Pleasure Number Three:
This ain't your Mama's ramen.
This is spicy and zesty and altogether intoxicating. I swear, this noodle soup has magical, healing properties, and although it'll never be confused with health food, it sure does do MY body good when I'm feeling under the weather. If you're a spicy food aficionado like I am, do yourself a favor and grab a bag or five of Shin Ramyun next time you're out.
Guilty Pleasure Number Four:
Little Debbie Fudge Brownies.
Madame Debbie's contributions to society rank right up there with Madame Curie's in my book!
No Godiva for this gal, just gimme a box of Lil' Debbie goodness this Valentine's Day and I'll be a happy gal. Serve 'em to me straight from the fridge and I'll be yours for life.
Guilty Pleasure Number Five:
Uh huh.
When I was planning our wedding reception three years ago, I only knew of one song that absolutely, positively HAD to be played, and it was Sir Mix-a-Lot's ode to the female posterior.
Don't ask me why, there's just something goofy and infectious about the song (and video) which always causes me to bust a discreet move whenever it comes on.
That's it for now.
Still love me?
Any guilty pleasures that YOU wanna share?
Do tell!
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteI cant totally relate!!
Love the bachelor, hate Vienna!!! I don't get it!
I have not tried those noodles, but now I have to.
Used to watch GH a long time ago. I'm sure it's still great!!
Great post today!
Rosemary
Love the bachelor even if it is so contrived but I still watch it. I have other guilty pleasures but I'm with you on Little Debbie brownies...yum.
ReplyDeleteOh yah...I love you even more!!!! I've watched every Bachelor and Bachelorette and my hubs and four kids give me h*ll for it! Yip they have even tried to kidnap me so that I will miss it. Can you believe the nerve of them. I have hated Vienna from day one, but that is because the show made us hate her. I'm sad that Ali left. But I think if he was really falling in love with her he wouldn't be able to pick any of the other girls in the end because he would still be longing for Ali. And he would go after her after the show was over. That would actually be a fairytale ending that they all confess they are there for, but are they really? I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteDove dark chocolates is a must have guilty pleasure....and
Gossip Girl...I got my teen girls hooked on it. Yes, I watched the first season by myself while they were at youth group. Now they watch it with me. It's just so fun!
Anne, you entertain me! I love those brownies and I don't watch The Bachelor but love Dancing with the Stars. I ALWAYS watch The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless no matter how dumb it is! I haven't tried the Shin Ramyun but it sounds delish:) Thanks for sharing your guilty pleasures. I have soooooo many!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm with Dancing with the Stars and Housewives of New Jersey and New York, go figure. Food?...hmmm...Hersheys chocolate kisses! Little Debbies...see...I knew you loved me!
ReplyDeleteThere are way too many to list but...
ReplyDeletepeanut butter filled pretzels from Trader Joes

bunny

I love your guilty pleasures! I am an All my Children Girl, This Bachelor has been crazy!!,And I am so addicted to Tuti-fruti Jelly Bellys! I really have it bad. I also am a crazy Twilight girl!! This was fun!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Lisa
We have the Little Debbie junkie gene in common! TV, I can do without! I can't find much on I want to watch. And, I do love Baby Got Back! It was written for me, in case you didn't know! But the original version went something like... Baby got back all the way to her knees!
ReplyDeleteAnna
Holy Cow Batman!! Well I for one had to watch the first bachelorette with the first episode.. I never laughed so hard. But then that was that, lost all appeal along with AI and other reality shows.
ReplyDeleteMy vices.. m&m's and reese's pieces! Sure I duck behind a dark alley with a handful of rolly polly peanut-butter m&m's every now and then.. but I never mix the the two.
Donut holes of the most delicate kind.. Krispy Kremes. Lucky enough to have one of the original stores in Raleigh.
Peppermint Mocha coffee creamer.. good lord I'll pay for that I'm sure.
and I'll watch West Wing over and over.
Oh well.
with love and bring some of those brownies next time you visit!
Olivia
Ok Anne...Sooooooo I have watched the Bachelor
ReplyDeletea few times...I could be addicted to it but
my 90 year old mother lives with me and well
I think her blood pressure would go way too
high so can't do that...ummm Dancing with the Stars occasionaly...BUT CHOCOLATE is another
story....I was weaned on chocolate my mother has a chocolate stash on her walker with her at all times...and she shares and passes them around which is very nice of her. I have my own stash and I DON'T pass mine around...I'm guilty and I frankly don't give a d$%#...
I still love ya if you still love me!!! Have a great night...uh oh here comes Ma with some more CHOCOLATE!!!!
When Luke and Laura were all the RAGE one summer I moved somewhere that the shows were four months late and had to wait even longer for the storyline to continue! hmmm Now, I want a Little Debbie! Lezlee
ReplyDeleteGreat post Anne.
ReplyDeleteI need to get out more because I have not heard of the Bachelor and will try and see if I can get a copy.
I think it is good to watch shows, that the hubs may not like. We do not have Little Debbies over here either - but I do get my share of other chocolates and goodies we have over here.
Hugs
Carolyn
I'm afraid my "guilty pleasures" are totally different than yours. But you are not alone that I know. I had to laugh at the Little Debbie guilty pleasure though. My first job was at McKee Baking Co. the makers of Little Debbie's. It was a good job and I worked my way through college there. You crack me up girl. Hugs, Marla
ReplyDeleteI think you are a pretty cool person that loves what she loves and thats that!!
ReplyDeleteI have quite a few guilty pleasures. For one, I like really dorky old detective movies on AMC, like the old 1940's "Thin Man," and "Mike Hammer." I love the Home Along first movie and I have seen it hundreds of times. Don't know why but I think its because it makes me laugh.
I hide bags of those sugary sweet orange slices in my car and eat them while driving.
There fat free ya know!
Great post. I love it.
hugs
Sissie
I must admit I'm addicted to guilty pleasure #1 and to top it off from a very good source (my son) says he's going to pick Ms. Vienna Sausage (as my husband call's her)! I'm still lovin ya!

ReplyDeleteMichelle
Remember when I wrote "if you love it, then I love it for you"? I was a huge GH fan until the mob took over Port Charles. I haven't watched in about a year, but I bet if I tuned in I could get caught up before last the duh duh duh duh of the day! I only watch 3 programs...Big Bang Theory, Lost and DWTS. DWTS is my guilty pleasure. It's so bad...it's good! Yellow Boxes, too much jewelry, and...wait for it...Casa Taco nachos!
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Okay...first, your comment on my post made me laugh out loud! I loved it! I can so relate...my guilty pleasures: The Young and the Restless, Big Brother, Moose Munch, Blended Coke Floats from Sonic, Chicken Ramen Noodles and I have a special place in my heart for Baby Got Back! I'll have to tell ya about it sometime! LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove ya!
Adrienne
Anne, you are so funny. I love how candid you are- it's very refreshing. I, too have "Guilty Pleasure No 1". Honestly, it's about the only show I watch anymore, but I have to watch it even though it's so dumb. My family thinks I'm crazy, but they are all hooked too(even if they don't admit it). I will be very disappointed if he ends up with Vienna. What is he thinking. My husband thinks they make them keep around certain girls just for the drama.
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Kathleen
Hysterical.
ReplyDeleteI'm bustin a move here...
xoRebecca
Okay, so was last night like deja vu all over again...or what?!!! And how great is it for the final gal when she hears all of the, "I'm falling in love with 4 woman at once." And how he said to each one that he missed them and was thinking about them...when he had just spent time smooching away with the other gals. Gross! My vote is for....
ReplyDeleteTenley!!!!
: )

So, girlfriend...Let's make a daily date to sit on the sofa or our favorite comfy chair (actually, I'm ALWAYS found in the studio with the tube set to A-B-C at 2-4 pm), break out the brownies and we can watch the soaps together! And if we're too busy to pay close attention, there's always Soapnet late night.
ReplyDeleteI've been a GH follower for over 30 years. Saw Luke and Laura tie the knot...watched the Quartermains battle and bicker...cried when Sam's baby died, Alan died, Emily died, Claudia died (just kidding...)and everything before and since. Love the latest Carly the best and swoon every time Jason enters the room. Of course, Sonny is a dish*, too! (*dish is a term my British mum uses to describe someone who is simply "yummy".)
I guess I'm doubly sick, because I have to admit I have also watched One Life To Live just as long!
I'm learning we have more in common every time I visit. Kinda scary, hey? Add chips and dip to the afternoon and I'm movin' in!
xoxo
Donna
YOU????????? Sir Mix A Lot?????????? NO way!!! :)

ReplyDeleteLil' Debbie rules the world... then she takes over herself and rules all over again!
Design Star. I will not miss it... and bluegrass music... I will turn it down at the red lights and make sure nobody is pointin' and laughin', but get me on the open road and I'm air pickin' and a grinnin'...

Blog:Capers of the vintage vixens
{giggle giggle} TOO CUTE Anne!!
ReplyDeleteLet's see here....my guilty pleasures and true confessions would be..
1. The Real Housewives of Orange County and Tough Love
2. These donuts called paczki that I just found at Giant Eagle (OMG - to die for raspberry filling) and raspberry coconut Zingers.
3. pillows. pillows. pillows. I just can't stop buying them!
Fun post!!
xoxo
Pols
you are so bad.
ReplyDeletethe batchelor???
okay, so i record it and fast forward through all of the stupid stuff (that would be the majority of the show including the commercials) and home in on the cat fights and, i admit it, vienna.
i hate not to like her because no one likes her and i feel sorry for her, but, well, the brunette is my favorite or the dark blonde with straight hair.
oh, and the one that left because of her job this week? SHE needs to be on general hospital - what an actress. i threw up a little bit in the back of my throat just watching her.
so, okay, just the fact that we both have these guilty sins proves that we were separated at birth - they may be a bit different, but i have some sick issues.....read on......
*i have an addiction to junking that is so bad that i've dumpster dived.
*i won't miss 24, Criminal Minds, Survivor (I KNOW!), Project Runway, American Idol (if I was only younger) and, oh, do I dare say it? ...The Real Housewives (I'm trash - this proves it). I adore ice cream - especially mint chocolate chip and I really like store brand sandwich cookies - they're so gross they're good:)
I'll stop now or this is going to quickly turn into a comment longer than your post.
See you Friday. WHOOP!!
XOXO, jan
Oh Girl I have way too many guilty pleasures....
ReplyDelete:-)
I have to admit I don't like to watch tv...... BUT I do still watch General Hospital {for many many years} {Sonny, Lucky, Jason and Jax rock}
And LOST has my attention .....
Anything vintage with cherries on it {makes my heart skip a beat} Thin mint girl scout cookies, yum, godiva chocolates, and antique shopping are just a few of my guilty pleasures!
Hugz, Dolly
Hi, my name is Teri and I am a cheesy musical-diet coke aholic! Forget the 12 steps, I don't want them! I love Little Debbies, but my fav's are the star crunch. Thanks for the confessional, made me giggle!
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteFirst visit over & I'm crying from laughing so hard. Oh my, I have more guilty pleasures than non-guilty. Aren't they the best ones? I also am a fan of the Bachelor. Yes, Vienna is a skank & that dweb deserves her. I was in love with Andrew Firestone tho, so sad when it didn't turn out well with what's her name. Guiltiest pleasure...hum watching MTV's The City with a pint of Ben & Jerry's Karmal Sutra. Lisa
This post so cracked me up. I love the guilty...or not so guilty pleasures. My husband says I lose brain cells watching this stuff. Guess who is hooked on the Bachelor? Oh yeah, he is! i will take Little Debbie peanut butter bars. I could eat a box. You brightened my day. I too own a little shop...come by and see!
ReplyDeleteOh and give me some Gold Digger anyday.
