A Little Bit of Paint, A Little Bit of Love

Welcome to Part Two of My (Maybe) New House Tour!
Today we're looking at part of the downstairs.

We went back again this afternoon for a second look,
to get more pictures, and we took my mom over to have a look, too.
(mom loves it, and she isn't even a vintage house lover!)

But everything is still very much in "maybe" territory,
as we still have just a few more houses to look at.

But having said that, we've still authorized our agent
to submit an offer this Monday, so I guess we shall know very soon!

So after seeing my
GORGEOUS pics yesterday
of the outside of the house, it's time to share the inside pics,
which is where the title of this post comes from.

Yes, it's gorgeous.
And yep, it has me written ALL over it.

But....

it's still gonna take a little bit of paint and a little bit o' love
to restore this 100 year old gal to her former glory.
But ain't that true of all of us old gals?! ;-)

So without further ado, let's start the tour!

Welcome to the foyer, and if we move in, s
ay goodbye to the hideous paint color and the cheap looking light fixture!
White paint and a suitable chandy will be in order, don't ya think?

Living room, looking into foyer.

Living Room.
Picture my Carol Hicks Bolton / Homestead couch there instead.

I actually went into Homestead yesterday and schmoozed owner Tim Bolton
into hiring me part-time if we move to Fredericksburg.
Okay, he didn't actually hire me, but he laughed and said he'd consider it!

And to the far right, you get a wee glimpse of the aqua kitchen...

And this room would be where the "little bit of love"
will come in handy. It needs some work!
I was thinking of re-painting the kitchen,
but after seeing this lovely for sale over at Tara's shoppe...

I'm thinkin' of just ordering it, and saving on the paint!
This would fit right in with the existing color scheme, eh? ;-)

And let's not forget the adjoining dining room...

Moving back into the foyer, across from the living room,
we have the "red room"...

It's being used as the Master Bedroom,
but I see it as a sitting room-office space, with maybe a sleeper sofa tucked in for guests.
I'm sorta diggin' the red!

This concludes day two of our tour, I'll be back next time with lots of fabulous upstairs pics,
as well as some surprises.

And I would be completely remiss if I didn't introduce you
to our two tour guides for the showings....

See the ginger kitty on the left, trying to be all camo for the shot?
These uber friendly felines followed us everywhere we went as we scoped out the property.
Too cute!

Have a wonderful Sunday,
and Happy Father's Day to my dad and all the rest of you dad's out there!

  7. What a wonderful house. We've come to Fredericksburg several times & stayed in some of the old houses. It's one of our favorite places. I love the Homestead Stores. I think it was the first time we ever saw a white shop. What a fun town to live in -- & good luck on the job. Jan

  24. Yes, this is my kinda house. From the outside view to the front door, fabulous. The rooms are great, definitely with new paint colors, but the overall size of the house is perfect. And that addition ... fantastic! In a beautiful historic area. I say, yes, yes and yes again. Good luck! Tammy (Hope fur baby is all better now) Love your new header!

  25. Anne~

The house already has great "bones" from the beautiful wood ceilings and floors to the lovely front door. You are right, a fresh paint color change and new light fixture will go miles in bringing this baby to it's full glory! I do love the turquoise color of the kitchen but if it is too bright for you why not just put a tobacco glaze wash to tone it down a bit which would go with the lovely wood floors???

I am sending many prayers that you and your husband will be the new owners of this charmer:)

    Blessings,
    Carol

  26. Love the house - not the paint colors. It is surprising that such a cute white house has such bold colors, inside - no hint of that from the street!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh that orange is just so pukey! Ick, gag!
Yep, white paint your fabulous sofa (I totally have sofa envy over that one) would look fantastic! Can't wait to see what happens!

  28. When you said "a little bit of paint and a little bit of love...100 year old house" I was preparing myself for rundown and terrible but good bones. This is great! Yes, it does need a lot of paint but even the kitchen is great. Paint the cabinets, add a great backsplash and repaint. That's it. The white countertop isn't even that bad and could wait to be replaced if needed. Those ceilings are spectacular!

  31. OK...this is the *one* that made my heart beat faster:)...it is so homey...farmhouse style...so much more *you* with your carefree-ness. And that front door...(I've been known to jump headfirst into reno project all because of a front door)...it is gorgeous and almost exactly like mine here...now I really want to see more...and I will pray that you will land in just the *right* place.

  32. Since you already "moved in".... LOL it's going to be wonderful when you make it your "Home Sweet Home"...
I sold year real estate a few years ago and hubby still does... so, it's going to be your new Home!! It's wonderful!
    Warmly,
    Deb :)

  33. Wow, the former owners, sure loved their colors. But the house has great bones, it just needs some new clothes and some nice accessories and it will be like Cinderella going to the ball.

  34. Oh Anne... it is fabulous and in Fredricksburg!!! Love that town!!!
I will keep my fingers crossed and my paint bucket handy... just let me know when to be there

  35. This house is so amazing. I can just imagine how lovely you will make it if it is the right place for you. It makes me want to look at homes again but I'll just forget about it. We have a house in our area, built in 1919, that has gone up for sale 3 times in about 20 years and each time we have noticed it has always had an offer. I do love the place we are now though. Thanks for sharing.

  44. Oh, how I hate it when people paint older homes in colors that are "modern". My home is all painted in age-appropriate colors, if that makes sense. I know you'll find a faboo home, and this is clearly the frontrunner. Make an offer that includes a buyback for PAINT.
