Blog Constipation

Do you ever sit here and just stare at your monitor and think
(or even say out loud, if you're one of those weird types who talk to yourself non-stop. Like me)

"What the #@*! am I gonna blog about today?"

 Welcome to my world.

I spent a couple of hours last night
reading a boatload of old posts from Tara of Blondie 'n' SC.
Dang, but that girl has a gift for expressing herself!
And in a way that's completely relatable and identifiable.
She just rocks, plain and simple.

And then I came back here.
Ugh.
And immediately wanted to just wipe out
90% of my old posts and start over.

(utterly DARLING giveaway win from DustyLu & The Agoura Antique Mart)

My days and nights are all mixed up lately...I've been off work
more than I've been working, so I've been staying up
way into the wee hours and sleeping in late like the slug I am.

This is, no doubt, wreaking havoc on my thought processes, hence my feelings.

What feelings, you ask?

Thank you for asking.

I feel constipated.

Creatively, inspirationally, motivationally plugged-up.

Can anyone else out there relate?

Do they make Metamucil for blogging?

Or has it perhaps advanced to such a state
that I now require a full-blown, blogging colonic?

I smile.

As I'm typing these words, I hear Mr. Twig in the other room snoring.

Ahh, the sleep of the content and the well-adjusted.

Just some random 2am thoughts, shared because somewhere,
some place, someone else gets what I'm talkin' about.

Sleep well, my pretties!

  1. I get you! That happens to me all the time, and then I start a post, and don't finish and every day look at it and sigh and do something else. Have you ever thought about using a word generator? Sometimes it comes out with something very random, but a lot of times you can relate to it, and then you think of something semi-interesting that happened, and you're off. Anyway, it worked for me. :)

  2. I know what you mean, it happens to me all the time, I'm just not a girl of many words, I guess that comes from growing up in northern Wisconsin with the cows? they don't talk much!! I love reading your blog, your one of my favorite blogs to visit. Have a great day. Many smiles, Carol Mae

  3. Although I am a newbie, having a boatload of fun and love the subjects I am blogging about I think my posts need more, um, je ne sais quois?! Depth perhaps...humor perhaps...like I said je ne sais quois (sure hope I am spelling that right). So Anne, find that medicine because you are a BIG inspiration here! Although, today's post did not disappoint! Humor and LOL, depth too! Have a great day!

  4. Well dear Anne, thankfully I have these busy grandchildren or my blog would be empty. I am not as creative as lots of you, so I don't have that to talk about:) I wish I could stay up late but I am a big 'ole baby and go to bed early and get up early. Now that snoring husband, check him for sleep apnea... just a hint, that is one of the symptoms! My honey has it and sleeps with the cpap machine now... NO more snoring here:) Hang in there and let's get you straightened out, maybe you need a weekend getaway? Hugs and prayers, and extra hugs:)

  5. I think we all get "blog block" at one time or another. I'm like Carol Mae ....a country girl.
I do not have the knack with words that many of the bloggers do. My daughter gwen has a blog and she is never at a lost for words..she didn't get it from me.

Life was more exciting when my husband was alive as we were off on the motorcycle or camping. I am having my coffee and wondering
    ...what do i post about.

keep on posting ...love your blog

Too funny, Anne! It must be a theme...I was just talking with a friend the other day about someone we both know who creates discord and messes 24/7 and that following this person around to fix the havoc is like following an elephant on ExLax with just a small broom and dustpan! LOL!
I don't know if they make a pill for your problem though! LOL! Not to worry! It will pass. It's the artist's perennial dilemma but it does go away!
    Thanks for the giggles though!
    Hugs,
    Diane

  10. Of COURSE, I know just what you mean. After working on a post for quite a while and then hitting the POST NOW button, it is sort of like putting a kindergärtner on the bus for the first time.....You hope it goes well, but as you send her off, you turn and think: now what??? But eventually, a thought starts to form....just a small seed, at first.....and there you are, blogging about NOT KNOWING WHAT TO BLOG ABOUT. So, no worries, I'm sure that seed is already ruminating in your gorgeous head, preparing to sprout something else wise and wonderful!
xx P&H PS: LOVE the picture of the flowers and wondering why you need ANY help with the camera???? You're amazing.

  11. It happens to me all the time...but you are correct to put it out there for some support. I'd rather not blog than have a so-so blog with no comments...which is happening regularly with me. As i once blogged about a break through...SMOOTH MOVE...my Ex-Lax moment has arrived! :O LOLOLO ox lulu

  12. Well gee Anne, I think it must be self-bashing day girl! I think you are a wonderful blogger so don't second guess yourself. We all get into the constipated corner once and awhile - that's why I only blog about once a week LOL

    ReplyDelete
  13. LOL Anne! I am sure you will come out of it. You have way too much creativity inside to not have something to share with us in some form or another! Like my friend Diana Frey says....just breathe =))

  14. Oh Anne, I so well know what you're talking about. I'm in a momento of my life that I'm blocked by many thoughts and projects, but so blocked that I'm not able to do anything about it. I don't know where I shall go, or what shall I do to give shape to these thoghts. I feel suspended in time and space. Just my mind works, that never stops. But still, I don't know what I shall write about, or maybe have too many arguments and don't know where to start. I'm sure soon thoughts will flow free in your mind as well..... Hugs, Zaira xxx

  15. This is a VERY creative post for 2am!! Blog constipation! Ha Ha!!! Love it!! You are funny!

I agree...sometimes the inspiration just isn't there!! I try to keep my blog narrowed down to items and stuff (decorating, what's for sale) so that makes it a little easier!

    Have a great Thursday Anne!

    Hugs,

    Polly

P.S. thanks for your comment about my booth! I don't have a full time job, so my booth kind of is my full time job, so I have more time to spend "fluffing"!!

  16. Miss Anne, At least you got on here and wrote something! I've had blog constipation for almost a month now and just look at my blog hoping something will come to me to write about and then I close my blog and feel even more constipated!! Then I do come up with something and only 2 people respond and I figure well, I must have lost my followers as I have not posted regularly! Ok, well sun is very finally out today, so maybe I'll take some pictures and be inspired to blog. So, I get it Anne!! Hugs to you, Kim

  18. I am right there with ya on this one...totally constipated...blocked up...ain't NOTHING coming out! It's bad! I almost hung it all up and said adios to blogging a few times this week. I mean really, what can I say...that I woke up, drove my kids to school, went home, cleaned my house, drove back to get my kids and then went back home, cooked tacos and then watched AI and went to bed! Who wants to read about that!???

Sorry about that...I'm fine now. :)

    Love ya!

  19. Do they make Blog fiber? Eat more apples and pretend you're Fiona Apple for a day. :) Girlfriend, you are hard on yourself. You have almost a 1,000 followers so you must be doing something right.

Glad you liked my Kerrville trash stuff. I cornered the market that day. :) I think I found that fan on Barbara Ann. If I get it to working and you come see me, I'll let you sit in front of it to cool off. :) ((((hugs))))

You are wonderfully amazing and you are loved...not just "followed"... for who you are as a person, not for what you type.

  21. Dear Anne~I have been blogging for almost 5 years and I hit those blockage times too:)) Sometimes I go to the bookstore and scan magazine titles to help spark posting ideas~it really does help~

I know we only met briefly in Texas at the Blog Party but I wanted to stop in and say Hello again:) I finally took the time to go back and look at your lovely blog and your posting's are delightful:))

I'm an RN too so if you need any further help with that "constipation" I can probably come up with some sort of BlogEnema:))

  24. I think your blog is WONDERFUL and I always look foward to reading your posts! But, I think we ALL go through this! It is simply impossible for me to post everyday! With two boys, one husband, four cats and a full time job PLUS the home...can't do it! SO, I do the best I can and try and get at LEAST 2 or 3 posts a week! I don't have millons of followers, but I have fun and LOVE the ones I have!!

You will break out of this and just BLOOM!

    Have a great weekend!

  26. Anne, I can totally relate to this one. I struggled to come up with something for my Alphabe-Thursday post this week. Just couldn't get motivated or inspired and nothing creative came my way. So in the end I pulled together some photos and basically did a wordless post. The end product was nothing like my original thought which was going to be a tablescape. So thanks for sharing your thoughts at 2AM. Hope you are sleeping in this morning.
I didn't comment on the previous days post, but loved your thoughts.

I appreciate your honesty. Usually, I can think of a lot to say but I am afraid to share for fear of what people might think. I want to be more "me" but I edit myself fiercely. I've never been able to say anything like I have "blog constipation." I'd say that's pretty bold! Love your blog.

Oh girl - I soooo get this. I'm a writer and I used to write fiction. One day my characters left. Disappeared. I was so sad. I've never been able to get them back home.
    Never.
And then one day I realized that my characters were done. The books I wrote were all I needed to write. I didn't need to write fiction anymore.
That was a huge shock because I always thought I would be a fiction writer. It's just what I knew I would be.
Then I discovered other writing avenues - and found my calling. I'm meant to write. Just not what I thought I would write. I purged the characters living in my head and moved on to the next phase.
Anyway, all that to say -- that maybe you need to refocus your angle a bit. Rediscover who or what your blog is about. And, my sweet Anne, thank you for letting us follow you on the journey.

  52. Take a walk, but not at 2 AM. I can usually find something to blog about by just taking a walk and clearing my head or seeing something worthwhile. But I must tell you, I love your wonderful picture of the beautiful Lantana flowers that made me smile & remember...
When I was a little girl those were always my very favorite flowers. I would carefully pick them & pretend that they were my Barbie dolls wedding bouquets. Each tiny flower looked like a stunning bouquet of color to me.

I often am "dry" when it comes to the inspiration well. That is what I love about the blogging world - I am so inspired by others and it seems to give me what I need to move forward. Isn't it nice to know we aren't alone?
Have a fabulous rest of your weekend,
    xx

  75. I can relate...which is why I don't post that frequently... But maybe it should be like an exercise - writers write every day... I'm not sure. All I'm saying is: I get it, and I usually just go off and do other creative things if I'm not feeling inspired to write. I think it's okay to give yourself room to step away for a while if you need to.
