I found this home. In Texas. Not all that far away.
In a word, it's stupendous.
And it's less than $250K.
Get a load of this...
Without giving away the exact location, here's the listing:
Attention University Parents, Bed & Breakfast Owners and Lovers of Charm Galore!
This fabulous 6 bedroom, 4 bath home was built in 1907 and received the prestigious Historic Landmark Preservation Commission's Award for Excellence in Residential Restoration.
A fabulous property that you must see for yourself!
Squeeee! There's more!
Doesn't this blue room just scream photography studio???
Pretty stinkin' incredible, right?
Oh, the possibilities...my mind just reels thinking about them all.
It's a longshot, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility.
Besides, what's life without having dreams and goals, right?
And what fun is it if you can't share those with your friends?
That's what y'all are, after all!

Oh my gosh, I love this house. If you don't take it I think I could be talked into transplanting us.
Six bedrooms...Mr. & Mrs. Twig...that leaves FOUR bedrooms. I call the one with the most windows!!! (Besides yours, of course!) I think it's one fabulous house, and I know that YOU would make it a HOME. Keep us posted...but figure you'll have to install internet for sure, so we don't lose you in the move!

LOVE it!! That is an amazing price too!
Ok, this is gorgeous, and it makes me mad that is bigger and may I say cheaper than my house! Boy, am I in the wrong market! :) But all that aside, I love all the details like stain glass windows and crown molding adn wainscoatins. The only question I would ask is about the "Historic Landmark Preservation Commission's Award for Excellence in Residential Restoration" (that's a mouthful). Does this mean it is now a "historic landmark"? And if so, are there any requirements/guidelines that you need to follow to ensure it continues to be considered historic? Some of those houses have requirements about colors, changes to the house, etc. But other than that it is gorgeous!
I think it is a fitting and proper home for you two. What I would give for that light-filled "photography" room. That house is a treasure.

Hi Anne,
I'm all for moving up and on and sometimes life gives us opportunities to act upon. The house is so pretty and the architectural details are amazing. It looks to suit you to a "T!"
The only advice I can give you is to be sure that this is the area in which you and your Mr. Twig would like to live. I suggest you make a list of all the pros and cons of your move.
I'm much older than you but I retired at 53 and Mr. Sissie at 55. We moved from our home state to the coastal area of South Carolina and built our dream home. I had a really hard time adjusting to me new life and new surroundings and longed to be back where life was familiar and family was nearby despite the fact that our home was everything I dreamed of. I have finally adjusted after 7 years. I found a shop for my booth and started junking and the rest is history.
I know you will decide what is best so take your time and work it out. It's easy to fall in love with a house but it has to become a "home," first.
I wish you the best of everything.
hugs
Sissie
gorgeous...and what a price!!! oh, I would go for it!!! adventures, thats what makes life fun!!
It is fabulous and big with so much natural light and YES to the blue room as a photography studio, wowee.
Hi Anne,
Wow! this home is amazing and so gorgeous.
I could see you and Mr Twig living here.
I love it and really hope that your dreams will come true. Much luck, dear friend and please keep us posted.
Happy week
Hugs

Life is about taking chances, following your heart and instincts and chasing your dreams ~ you only live once....so there, you know my answer!
It's STUNNING!!! Imagine the posts you could do from there ~
Sarah :)
Boy, do I ever live in the wrong part of the country! Do you know what a gem like that would go for around here, on Long Island? Maybe a million? Don't even ask what the property tax would be--you'd choke.
Sometimes (especially on a bad winter day) I totally want to leave and live someplace else. But then I think of future grandchildren (my daughter is engaged--no sign of grandbabies yet) and think I don't want to be the "Florida" grandma, you know? Besides, I've lived here all 54 years of my life and it is 'home.'
But still, with a house like that...I'd be tempted!
How soon can he get a job near there???? That is awesome and in such good shape. Wonder if I need to move there. Wonder if there are a few 40something guys in need of a wife???!!! LOVE the house! Hope you get to move some where fun!
Hugs, Lisa
Holy guacamole! You have to live life and go for it now...while you can because life is way too short. Personally I do not want to say to my honey in the future I wish we did this or I wish we did that. We are doing and doing and are having a ball along the way! Go for it!!!
OMG What fun you would have decorating that gorgeous house. I love it and it sounds like the price is great too. If you don't get it you can always move here. We have fabulous homes and we can use some more great teachers:) Good luck and keep us posted.

So where exactle is this home in Texas, I might be movin...he he he!! What is not to love, you did say if you get this home we could come visit right, I want the blue room:-)
Hugs,
Melissa
do not pass go -do not collect dollars- just BUY and boy quick!!!
fantastic- and what you could do with it!
Karen
I would be getting out the steamer trunks and gathering boxes immediately. A home like that up our way would be at least five times the fee with property taxes requiring a second job....
As for the blue room it's a great workspace.
WOW! it is beautiful!! i say go for it my friend :) have a nice week! xo susan
Oh that is my dream house! You go girl! When we sold our little house in the city and moved north to the 10 acres we are on, we ended up with close to 4000 square feet. We raised out 3 girls in a house of 1000 square ft. This house is a modular. Pre-built brought in put on a basement and then finished inside and out. Ranch. It was on the land when we bought it. I have always wanted an old house like you are looking at. But hubs did say he liked this land so much that I should be happy it wasn't a shack because that is where we would be. lol.
Wow.Wow.Wow. If you decide to buy it, I think you will need a maid. Ahem...have I ever mentioned how good I am at housekeeping? ;-)
It's really great...and it looks to be in good condition. All it would need is your personal touch. I really like it!
Nancy
think of all the stuff you could put into that big house....it’s you!!
OMG I love it!!
I hope you have put in an offer-what a place!
Seriously though, good luck with everything. I know exactly how your hubby feels. I have recently quit full-time teaching and am doing substitute teaching at my old school. If we didn't have 2 kids happily attending good schools (and doing so well) I think we might have considered moving as well-a change is as good as a holiday they say!
Best wishes,
Natasha.
you really have to ask us? is it near marburger? if so mr. pea and i are stayin' with you...
hugs,
shelley
OH what a beautiful house...imagine being able to make it yours!
It's definitely a beautiful house. I hope you'll be employing a housekeeper should you take it.
With the age of the house I'd be sure to check when the plumbing pipes and electrical was updated and be sure to have it checked out yourself. My friend bought a wonderful victorian for a steal in downtown Denver, only to move in and then find out the water heater and the plumbing lines had to be replaced. Costs her well over $15,000. Just be sure to look beyond the beauty and check out the 'innards'.
Also, like someone else already mentioned, I'm sure they have restricitions if the house is still on the historic registry. Those parameters usually extend to what you can even do to the yard.
Proceed with caution. It looks like a great place that you could even hold sales for your antiques and stuff from time to time.
WOW!
Unbelievable!
Especially from the persepective of NY prices!
Wow!
I'm repeating myself.
Wow!
I think I know where this house is! I believe from the description that it is in the town I live in!
Won't say where! Contact me if you have any questions.!
Colleen
Seriously? Is there any question? That house is kick booty!
As an educator myself, I think it is important to be willing to move to improve one's salary! I have been guilty of staying in one place too long because it was easy! Make the move!
Malisa
Wow! Are you taking reservations for overnight stays yet?? It is gorgeous with so many possibilities!
are u kidding? not sure what the really questuon is here. should you take a chance for something that looks great.mmmm diane
What a great house!! Can you just imagine the possibilities? I will stay tuned to see what happens.
OMG wow!! This is just unbelievable!!!!!!!
If you were to find a home here where i live ...which is so hard to do...it would be listed in the 900,000 to a million...not kidding!
Grab it you lucky girl!!!
Pamela xo
I love it, I vote yes!! Every room looks so beautiful. You always bring a huge smile to my face when you post about these awesome properties you find. I think it is good that we can dream and if we dream long and hard enough, it will just come true.
Debby
This one has Potential galore! Gorgeous house! So fun to look at old houses!
Jody
Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I LOVE it. How amazing would this be!
Keeping everything I have crossed for you...even my eyes *giggle*
Love,
LuLu~*xoxo
p.s. If you get this, then you will have plenty of room for us to come visit!!
LuLu♥
Hi Sweet Annie! Only allowed myself to check ONE blog today and glad that it was YOURS, as I'm smiling from cheek to cheek! What a gorgeous home! But first and foremost, I'd want to make sure that Mr. F&T was changing to a job that he LOVED and also that this fantastic house wasn't too far away from said job. If the stars all align, then of course, I say GO FOR IT! Now, for my own selfish question: How far away would this be from San Antonio? My mom and I are meeting there for my annual b-day trip next spring! xx Suzanne
Oh my Stars Anne,,it is gorgeous! And the price,,,geeh, feeling a bit ill at what my house is appraised at in comparison...LOL
Okay? Old house? Have a thorough inspection,,,,wiring/bugs/foundation. Old homes always have their flaws, but the "bones" on this one look awesome! And,,,,,if you DO buy it, be prepared to always,,,always have something that needs to be repaired.
Otherwise,,,hmm, Like Lulu said, lots of extra rooms for guests! LOL.
Hugs and love,
Shell
I live in Southern California, which is over crowded, bumper to bumper traffic, and we live on expensive postage size lots in not huge houses. We do, however, have awesome weather, and the beach is only a ten minute drive away. But I kept staring at the price then the house, the house then the price!! Wow, maybe its time I move my store and homee somewhere else! Thanks for sneak preview, and I LOVE the blue room!
Take care, Sue
yes,it is lovely plus enormous. all i can say is it would take us a very long time to weigh out all the yeahs and nays. i don't mean to be a downer, but it should be thought about carefully. did i miss something? what ever happened to the darling farm like home in the country? i get so cautious, when it comes to big dicisions. Bestest,Denise
I could visit on the long weekends, I'm sure I'm not that for away! Wonderful!
Lezlee
It's beautiful! Spectacular! The kind of home I dream about. Good luck to your husband finding the job he wants. Of course, you are free to move up to the Ft.Worth area to the school district where I work.
Dear Anne-
Throughout your post, I was distracted by the job possibility (as much as the amazing house!).
At the risk of sounding bossy ( with great affection and hope for your dreams), ask him to include language tied to the TEKS/TAKS for science ( and willingness to knock test scores out of the park) to the TEKS/TAKS objectives that all districts in the state of Texas want to achieve.
Now that I have completely overstepped my bounds of propriety and good judgment, I HOPE YOUR TEAM WINS!
My mother used to say that to me regarding important events in my life.
Fondly,
Laura

The house is to die for-
Light a candle! ( to whatever saint you wish)
The house looks awesome. Be careful because Historical houses in our area come with restrictions and have all the rules and regulations if you have to do something to it. We have a historical society that has a lot of say over our old homes which we have a lot neat ones. The price for the size sounds great and hopefully it will be close to Mr T's job. I love the blue room with all of the windows and the porch to set outside and enjoy the fresh air even with allergies. You have a wonderful week and keep us posted. Your Missouri Friend
Oh goodness Anne, absolutely gorgeous! You will be busy decorating that house from now on! LOVE it and I can help you move, I will get a UHAUL and be right on down... hehe! Dream, Sister, Dream! Dreams come true! HUGS!
It is just AMAZING!! I am SO rooting for you girl!
xoxo
Oh My take it! Gorgeous Lovely that blue room is many many ideas in my head for that room too..Goo girl grab it,lol.Best of Luck!I love it!
have a great new week ahead, let us know if our vote counted, lol;)
Anne, that home is amazing...i would want it just for all of those gorgeous windows!!! it is truly a beauty!!!
Lovely and fabulous home, but I want to know why you are asking us? :-) When it your pocket and you are the one that will be living in it? The only thing about historical homes is that, any changes will have to pass thru a committee, also if you do decide to go ahead a buy, be sure to have a good inspection. But since you asked BUY IT!
You better grab it!!! It looks perfect:) Love, Jamie
Oh Anne, it's a dream. Wow. SOOO big, too! Honey, I hope you like to clean! ;)
At that price, at least by real estate standards here, it is a STEAL!
May you be lead and may you land exactly where you are both ultimately supposed to be. Whether it's "dream house" from these photos, or somewhere you eyes have yet to even see. :)
Ruth
Follow your heart honey because only you know if you would be happy there.
I love it myself but could never keep it clean. lol
Is it in Brenham, Texas because it looks so familar
Love
Maggie
Oh my! It is a beautiful home at an amazing price!!! I can't believe it, if it weren't for the border and immigration issues I'd be trying to talk my husband in a move to Texas right about now! Seriously, I live in Vancouver and there aren't many one bedroom apartments for that price. That home is heaven to me! Good luck - I hope it works out for the both of you and I can live my dreams through you!
Hugs,
Catherine
That is AMAZING!!! I hope everything works out in your favor of course and if that house is included well then my friend, you are one blessed girl! But you know that you already are anyway, don't you!!! I love all of the windows, the whole home looked impeccible. Wishing only the best for you both, Theresa
I love the house, why do I have to be on the other side of the world. It is amazing and the space and light is wonderful, the possibilities are endless. ( I am even visualizing my furniture in that house - if I can move around the world once why not again :-)
Amazing !!! i wanna live by you !!!! hugs from Ria and a happy week !!
Wow, that would be called a 'mansion' around here, even in Sydney. Of course a lot depends on the neighbourhood. You have to remember, while you can improve on the house you can't do much about the neighbouring houses. The price seems low for such a beauty so you should really check it out carefully. But what a dream home it would be if everything checks out OK.
OMG! I love it Anne...can I come live with you???? LOL =)
Do it. I'll help you move!!!
;-) robelyn
It's lovely, good luck with your decisions. Sometimes we just have to take a leap!!
Well, I think this house needs Fiona and Twig! Just think of all the wonderful rooms just waiting to be filled with all those vintage treasures. Go for it! ~ Sarah
Beautiful home, just do what your heart tells you. If it's the right one you'll know it!!! Blessings~~~Daphne
Holy Moly! That is one gorgeous old home - you wouldn't find me turning it down! Yes, go for it!
xo
Claudia
Gorgeous house but I'd like to hear Plan B too just because I'm nosey LOLOLOL
Oh, Anne! What a beautiful house!! Everything looks so open and airy! And yes, what a gorgeous room for a studio!!
This one is SO pretty!!! I love it!! I'm so glad you are posting these!!!! The newest one you posted about is cool too but...holy moly. I like this one :) That blue room IS a perfect photo studio!
Ok, upon closer inspection I love this too, and I can't decide. I say either one is pretty awesome (and the prices are incredibly good)!
Sheila
