The "Before" Tour, Part One

You've waited.

You've been patient...

Wait, strike that.
Most of you have been patient.  ;-)

I'm back to share the "before" pics of our new home with you today!

Now by "before" I'm referring to before we move in.
We did the pre-closing walk through yesterday,
so I made sure to document as much of the space as I could,
including such non-glam things as closet space. See how much I like y'all?

But first, a confession.

I'm feeling very disappointed in myself the past couple of weeks,
because I've had to make a tough choice...I love to visit all of your blogs
and see what you're up to and to leave y'all a comment
to let you know I popped by.

But with working LOTS more back-breaking 12 hour shifts at the hospital,
as well as preparing to move, I just haven't been able to find time
to make the rounds like I usually do.
However, I do read every single comment, and I appreciate each one so much!

So please accept my apologies, with the promise that things
should settle back to normal within the next month or so.
Hmmmm, it's that "or so" that has me worried!  ;-)

Enough words, have a seat on my porch swing and get ready to come inside...

Welcome to my living room...

And don't forget to click pics twice to super-size!

We're going to be stuck with these bleh shades
the homeowners left until I can arrange for something else.

You see the stained glass window
on the large window on the right?
Dreamy.
Here it is from the outside...

Back inside...

Bedroom #1...

Berber carpet.
I'm sure there are hardwoods underneath,
but I'm okay with the carpet for now.

The guest bath...

Lovin' the beadboard.

There was only room for a stackable washer and dryer unit here,
so I'm very glad the current owners are letting this convey.
Our full size units will stay with our current house once it sells, too.

Across the hall to the Master...

Have you noticed that there are
stunning transom windows throughout the cottage?

And now, you will excuse me as I post a series of photos
of my new Master Bathroom door.
I am just a wee bit obsessed with it!

And the view of it from inside the bathroom...(I'm such a dork!)

More fabulous beadboard!

This tub photo was taken during our June tour of the house.
This is a 100 year old home, do you know how highly unusual
it is to find a jetted tub in one of these old gals???

Anyhoo.

The Master closet is located just inside the bathroom,
and it's quite large, actually.

Now, having shown you this, that still didn't prevent me
from purchasing an AMAZING old wardrobe yesterday afternoon
for an obscenely low price. Pics to follow after we've moved in.

And now for the kitchen, right this way...

Hall closets on the right, kitchen door on the left.

 {confession time: I'm thrilled that there's a kitchen door!
I've never been a fan of "open concept" floor plans.
I love a well defined space, and I really like the separation of rooms using doors.
I know I'm pretty much alone in this preference. /rant.}

More beadboard {squeee}!

Dining room, just off the kitchen...

I have the most perfect farmhouse table
for this space. Just wait, you'll see.

Saving my pennies for a crystal chandie to replace the existing one.

Soooo....that's it for now.
Part Two of the tour will feature the great outdoors,
so be sure to hurry back.

Oh, one more surprise!

Fredericksburg is renowned for its peaches,
so guess what we have in the backyard?

Free peaches for anyone who helps us paint! ;-)

Click HERE for the tour of our incredible outdoor spaces.
And HERE to get a peek inside, too!

Have a beautiful Thursday!

I know it's wrong but I am over-the-top jealous of your new home! :) I love everything about it and think you are one lucky lucky girl!
The beadboard, the huge windows, the fabulous doors, the kitchen cabinets, the swing, the beautiful front door.....I could go on and on. Back when there were good shows on HGTV, they always showed beautiful homes in Fredricksburg. I happy for you that things have worked out with the home and can hardly wait to see what you do with it. Congratulations!

I just love the house and all the details. I can't wait to see it when you have put all of your lovely touches on it. Beautiful. As for the open floor plan, nope, not me either. When my husband and I designed and built our home we wanted it to have the more old farm house feel like my parents. Separate livingroom, dinning room and kitchen. I will tell you, a friend who does have an open floor plan home said that it does get noisey at parties because all the rooms are open. Love the new house, congrats!

Can you feel my smile for you? The house is lovely I look forward to your journey of making this old house your home! For the record, unlike McMansions or today’s designer trends to knock down walls and have one open shared space, the Fairfield House is true to its Victorian architecture and compartmentalized. Every room has it’s original door (thirty-two of them), door knob, lock and skeleton key. And I love it that way!

Wonderful tour! You are NOT alone in preferring well-defined spaces. We have been looking for five months for a home in the location my hubby is working. I hate the open concept trend myself and love the formal dining room, separate kitchen and not having to worry about food born particles landing in my living room. I can hardly wait to see pics as you make it your own. I LOVE the kitchen. Bead board is my favourite detail in old homes. I hope the transition goes smoothly.

COTTAG3 said...

As hard as we try, you just can't recreate that kind of character and charm. By the way, I'm not a fan of open concept either. Although we live in a relatively new house, it is similar to an old house with front porch, doors, well defined areas. Can't wait to see this house evolve with your touches.

Wow! By the way, I am not sure if you saw the note from last week to stop by and see me. If you look for the post titled "A great big thank you" you will find an award there for you. I would be honored if you would accept it. I am so happy for you and your husband. Good luck with the closing and the move.

Hi Anne! You're new home is lovely. I just love the feel of an older home. It has spirit and character. I adore the shape of you porch and the angled front door. And look as those gorgeous hardwood floors, bead board walls, wainscoting, stained glass and transom windows, and a wonderful tin roof to hear the rain on. It's seems you've got it all and with a porch swing and peach tree to top it all off! And I just love the kitchen. Can you tell I'm excited for you. Can't wait to see more of the outdoors.

Back to why I stopped by. I wanted to say thank you for praying for me and just showing your love and caring. I know just what you mean about finding time. You certainly should be exhausted with just your job alone. Let alone moving and all all else you do. Please take time to rest. I bet it will still be waiting for you when you come back. I certainly know your followers will.

With tons of love and bear hugs....Tracy :)

I am having so much fun looking at your pictures of your home. I love defined spaces also. I like the cozy feel.
The chandelier that is in the dining now is kinda neat.
I really like the front door and the stained glass especially.

Love the bead board. We just redid our bathroom, mostly in white, too. We used, for the shower, subway tiles, with a band of blue and beige glass tiles near the center. Then a white cabinet with marble for the sink. Finally octagonal white 2 inch tiles for the floor. It feel like heaven to have this new bathroom.

She's a beauty, Anne! You will be so happy here, I'm sure. p.s. I too am not a big fan of open concept spaces (this comes from having lived in Paris, where kitchens were tiny and guests were never allowed inside this room, especially during a dinner party!)

Y'all's new to you home is AAAdorable, congratulations! Old homes have a place in my heart and in my life; Thistle Cove Farmhouse is more than 108 years beautiful. We've been working on it this year, replacing poplar clap boards, fixing fireplaces, and, in general, getting ready for winter; the ole gal is looking pert good.

Best of luck with your new home!

No your not, I too love doors to every room and the kitchen is no exception. We have 2 doors to ours. I love a well define house.

I want your house! I am totally in love with the charm and character just as it stands right now. For me, its move in picture perfect. Please say you are keeping all the charm this cottage possess and the glass knobs on the kitchen cabinets... I LOVE THOSE. The one thing I noticed is you have plenty of electrical outlets~~ WOW!! I notice things like this.... I know... I am strange...

Accept???? The hall closets??? How on earth do you get up to the upper part??? Ladder??? Is that hidden in the walls so you can pull it down our out like attic stairs.... Or you just may have to go hunting for that perfect foot stool. I cant wait to see the pictures when you move in.
