Learning a New Art

Painting.

I've never been any good at it,
not even a little bit.

I find a lot to admire
in the art of painting, however...

how a bold stroke of red, or the judicious use of just a hint
of pale blue can convey wildly divergent emotions, and depths of feeling.

One can use a heavy hand or light, feathery strokes,
each technique imbuing the work with a
contrasting mood, taking each viewer to a different place.

I'm not planning on learning to paint,
but I am planning on learning a new art.

It's called the art of letting go.

Letting go of
Worry.
Fear.
Impatience.
Unforgiveness.
Anxiety.
Self-Recrimination.
Condemnation.
Depression.
Apathy.
and most of all,
letting go of
Regret.

I can't change the past,
but with my new set of tools in hand,
I can  paint a bright and cheery canvas on which
to build a happier 2012.

THAT is my New Year's resolution.

Wish me well,
and share your own resolutions
here with me, and us all.

Happy Wednesday, Sweet Friends.

Hi Anne,

I just discovered your blog and am so excited to browse all your posts. It's just beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for the post "An Ineffable light." I love the painting and want to find out more about the artist and St. Bridgett as I am also researching Hildegard of Bingham and studying her music.
I am sure that the same intention and beauty that you have put into your blog will flow into your painting. I wish you all the best in 2012. xoAmy

This is such a wonderful lesson to learn...and very freeing. I had to work very hard at forgiving someone who caused deep hurt~ it took quite awhile, but when I finally forgave her and let the situation go...I was set free. And as far as regret goes...you wouldn't regret something if you hadn't learned from it. It's in the past and you won't repeat it in your future! Happy New Year, Anne! XO

How wise you are sweet ..... Anne. Regret serves absolutely no purpose in life. Guilt is the runner up ..... let it all go.

Hugs to you,

Learning something new and being creative is very therapeutic and I find it very healing...you can let everything else go and immerse yourself in the moment.

Paint to your heart's content!

Oh, Anne --- you are wise beyond your years, my friend. You have had such a trying year with more downs than ups. Yet...you stayed true to your faith, looking to God for answers and comfort. I am so glad to have met you out here in blogland. You have blessed me more times than you know. I have decided that my word(s) for 2012 are "Be satisfied in ME". It's been tugging at my heart for a long time and it's time I recognized it as the Holy Spirit moving through me. Love you, sweet Anne! Can hardly wait to spend another year sharing in your journey!

In 2011 my husband had 3 major surgeries and was unable to work most of the year. My son had serious emergency surgery from a twisted colon. My 95 year old mom made 3 trips in 1 month to the ER. All this while dealing with my own health problems and babysitting my 2 year old grandson. My mom just was recently put on hospice and yet, here I am, feeling guilt and regret that I haven't been able to do more for her. Can I just give myself a break please?!

Beautiful words to live by. In the next year, I hope to learn to like myself and be as forgiving to me as I am to others. After all, I'm the only me I've got, and I have to be around me all the time!

I believe living an authentic, transparent life is truly the key to peace and happiness. I, too, need to work on many of the issues you've mentioned, Anne. Let's do it together. I'm always an email away! Hugs, Lisa

Hi Anne, I enjoyed your post tonight because it puts things in perspective. We all have had many trials this year, but we have survived. The year is almost gone and let's hope and pray that 2012 will be a better year for all of us. I will continue to pray for you my friend because you have had a lot on your plate. You managed, but you wondered how were you going to do it. Just don't forget to take some "Me" time because it is very important. Happy New Year Hugs from Your Missouri Friend.

i always feel like we begin the new year with a clean slate. it is ours to choose our path. but of course, it is not. our path is filled with darkness, hurts, and things out of our control. your list is good. we would all do well to follow your path for the new year. i pray for good things and new art. in fondest of regard, Tilda

Happy New Year, Anne!
"The unexamined life is not worth living"~~a powerful statement from Socrates.
A blatant call to action not only to ponder your own life but the lives of others.
Time for re-examining what is really IMPORTANT in my life this coming year.... I'm sure you can relate. :)
Wishing all the very best to you and Mr. Twig in the coming year, my dear friend. xoxo
