It Breaks A Mother's Heart!

Oh, my sad, pitiful fur daughter!

Formerly named Belle, re-dubbed Conehead of late
to better suit her current plight.

Conehead had to have some minor eye surgery last week,
and will be sporting her ceremonial headpiece for a few days longer.

It only slowed her down momentarily, she's now navigating the yard,
her food and water bowls,
and the back steps like she was born with the thing on.

She's even been getting extra treats simply for looking so darn pitiful.

Causing this guy...

(aka Mr. "OMG, I think I'm starving to death all the time, feed me, feed me NOW!")

to wonder what he might be able to pull off to land a cone of his own!

Have a tail waggin' night!

Oh, that is SO pitiful!!! Wonder what she got up to in order to land in THE CONE??? Hope she recovers quickly. Our dog is always hungry, too, just like your other doggie. She'll never say no to any kind of food....Well, maybe lettuce!

What beautiful soulful eyes... Mr. does look a little hungry. I think that cone needs some sheet music modge podged to it to cheer her up and later it could be made into a lamp shade, lol. Lezlee

Precious conehead cutie! I hope the eye heals quickly! Have a restful evening my friend! HUGS!

eye surgery? Hopefully it went okay since those are the most striking eyes ever seen in a dog, I mean furchild.

Poor baby. I feel so bad for them when they have to wear that dreadful cone! Your babies are beautiful by the way. I love dogs, we have two goldens...they are like small horses!

Sorry about the cone. They stink. Has she run it in to your legs yet? OUCH!! As I work in an animal hospital it happens to me all the time ;)
Hope she is doing great and has it off in no time!
Hugs, Lisa

I hate when our "furry friends" aren't feeling too great! Your dogs are beautiful. Years ago I had a half lab, half malamute (if I spelled that right). She was a great dog, one brown eye, one blue eye! Now I have my rescue dog, "Sally the Cabana Dog" that I swear is a special needs dog. She often cuts the corner by the pool to close and falls in! What are you gonna do, you love 'em anyway!

Take care, Sue

Oh poor little girl. My "grandpuppy" had to have some surgery last year and won the collar. I felt so bad for her. These are such special creations of Our Father. Just love them.

Poor Bella, I mean, Conehead :( I think it would be very hard to get around with that thing around my head...I might get skinny tho!
Warmly,
Deb :)

Um, Conehead, that's what you get for drinking too much at the party and putting the lampshade on upside down!! Seriously, Belle, I am sorry you have to go through this, and when I showed your pic to my golden retriever, Lucy, she offered to take your place, so typical of her tenderhearted breed. Anyway, a girl with your style and beautiful eyes can pull anything off, and dogs everywhere are going to be wanting your new "look"! We hope you have a speedy recovery, Belle!
Hugs and wags,
Laurie and Lucy

Oh Anne, they do look so pitiful when they have those on! I called Charlie "conehead" while he had his on after his big surgery last fall(big tumor) he is doing fine but I had to really love on him a lot while it was on.

Margaret said...

Isn't it amazing how animals adapt so quickly to things and they don't seem to experience pain quite like we do, or they don't think about it like we do. Hope your puppy recovers quickly and the other boy doesn't get too jealous.

That made me laugh so much ... "OMG, I think I'm starving to death all the time"... very typical

Poor little girl! Our cat needed a cone when we adopted him because of a bad ear infection. I felt so bad for him because he got caught on every door or chair leg in the beginning. Hopefully Belle can get rid of it soon.
Hugs for both of you :-),

Oh poor, poor Belle. I do believe it would be a little embarassing to have to wear such a thing. Can you just imagine how the neighbor dogs are talking?! I hope she gets her dignity back very soon Anne.

Poor Belle! I showed the photos to Kes. She wagged her tail and said something about, "Glad it's not me. I hate those things!", as she left the room. We feel Belle's pain. Hope she's better soon.

Oh, bless her heart! Our sweet gentle giant, Patchette, had to wear one on several occasions after surgeries, and we referred to them as her Elizabethan collars!

I used to have to run from her because she would bump into me and scratch my legs up something fierce when I was wearing shorts!

Hope your baby's eye is soon healed.

Big TX Hugs,

LOL I had a dog who had to wear one of those and found it amazing how quickly they adapt. I also had a very large parrot who had to wear one and inside of a cage it is a little more difficult but she did it:) Your pups are so pretty!

Hi Anne... awwww... I'm curious being a husky owner myself... why did she need eye surgery? is it a breed thing?
Your post was so funny... they are so precious! Hope she heals soon!!

Neeko (my husky furbaby) is still acting pitiful after his spinal stroke back in May... but no complaints here... just glad he's still with us!

ohh goodness so cute!! Glad the fur daughter is ok and learning to manuever her way through the day...my dog (greg, silly boy) would have had that thing off in a nano minute...he hates those cones! but I suppose the extra treats would be a huge bonus!!! xoxo

Anne,
It's 'the cone of shame'!! Did you see 'UP'? The alfa dog had to wear the cone of shame. Too funny. Not your pooch, sad I swear. Poor things going to have a complex. Lisa

Poor baby!! I know that dogs get jealous when one gets a bit more attention. Years ago I had two German Shepherd puppies. The male puppy cut his paw and the vet had to put in a stitch and bandage him up. The little girl pup felt sad, so I bandaged her paw too. She instantly cheered up and the two of them were just as happy as can be. Give those darling fur babies of yours a hug from me. I hope your sweet girl heals up soon and the cone can come off.

Love,
Susan and Bentley

Have you seen the post Debbie at Curious Sofa did a while back on how she dressed up Pearl's cone...it was a hoot!
Give her some style...she'll feel much better faster.

Tell Miss Belle that Auntie D says she's still pretty even with an icky collar. I always say that a little attention never hurts no matter what you have to wear! OK, that sounds creepy!

I absolutely know that I should not laugh at this. I think anyone who has had a canine child require said "cone head" goes back and forth between laughing and feeling so bad for them. I of course had to tie our dogs on with a pretty ribbon you know it's all about accessories.

Things That Inspire said...

Oh, the cone of shame - as they call it in 'Up' - because a dog always looks a bit embarrassed to have one of those contraptions on, even though it is always for their own good. Our golden retriever had to wear one for a month after he was fixed, and every time he sees it in the closet I feel like he has a certain look in his eye...

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your 'fur daughter' (love that!).
