How NOT to Take a Good Photo

 Happy Friday!

I'm super excited to announce that I am FINALLY finished
editing the over 700 images I snapped
this past weekend at the wonderful Willow Nest photo shoot!
Thank you again
Linda and Ludmil for your kindness and hospitality!

And now, an outtake.

I was thoroughly jazzed as I began to frame this shot in my viewfinder...
a fabulous centerpiece on their fabulous dining table.
So, uhhh, should be fabulous , right?!

You'd think.

And now, from the do as I say, not as I do files....

Looks pretty okay on first glance, right?
Mmmm hmmm, now look closer....

Recognize the idjit reflected in the shiny pink balls?
Thought so.

:-)

Moving on, I've been so immersed in photo editing this past week,
that I forgot to give a shout out to my girl Maria at Dreamy Whites!

She just opened her completely dreamy online shop, and if you haven't paid her a visit,
you really owe it to yourself to hurry on over.
Just look at some of what Maria is offering...

Gorgeous!

And the winner of my Understanding Exposure book giveaway?

Enjoy, Kathryn!
Go forth and take great pictures!
Just watch out for the shiny pink balls.  ;-)

Happy Weekend!

But, dear Anne... for a personal photo, it's perfect. You're like a little fairy there... caught in the act. :-)

Oh yeah, I could see myself doing this! In fact when I first started photographing my jewelry there were some that had my shadow in the shiny beads.

Congratulations, Kathryn, on winning this awesome book!

I was sitting there looking at the first pic thinking...looks great to me!!! So I had to laugh when I saw what happened! That is sooo totally something I would do! I still like the balls :)

I just got my uber laugh for the weekend, and then some ...
girl, you should be a stand up as your night job.

Now you have to tell us how to avoid catching ourselves in the images. I don't know how many times I see myself in a mirror and then I have to get creative in the cropping to get me out of there.

BTW, I bought that photography book for myself for Christmas. It is awesome. Thanks for the recommendation.

But you looks so cute reflected in the pink ball! :) I did that the other day in a silver teapot. Someone asked me "Who's that blue person in the teapot?" Haha! Silly me!

Michelle

I'm so ashamed of what my first thought was...my mind needs to washed out with a bar of soap!
Is this what is meant by "keeping your balls up in the air"? Sorry...couldn't help myself!
Congrats to the wiener!

It takes a highly trained artiste to recognize her image amongst those fine balls! Guess I should study up! Verrrry pretty photos! ~ Angela

I love the photo, funny I wouldn't have noticed it at first. Now you are just the pink photo fairy. I still think the photo is wonderful.

So funny to see you standing there. I think things like that just have a way of keeping us humble... :)

Tammy@T's Daily Treasures said...

Anne you are such a hoot! Isn't it funny how you take pictures and don't even think about the reflection until you see it in print. Sometimes I do see shadows when I am taking a picture and I have to lean back. :) Congrats on being a full fledged photo taker! Blessings for a wonderful weeekend. Tammy

Teeheee, I have done that so many times, taken a photo of something shiny with my reflection in it. You get some interesting self portraits that way ;-)

June said...

It's just pretty little ol' you...what's so wrong with that?!LOL! It is so hard to get shots of shiny items. I gave up trying at Christmas, so there I am, in nearly everyone.
Maria's shop is so terrific!

Oh, I hate it when that happens!!! I have spoiled a few photos with my image where it shouldn't be. It's not easy shooting reflective pieces but the photo is still wonderful.

Congrats to the winner.

Would that every shiny object could possess such a cute little idjit!! xoxo ~Lili

Tonia Lee Smith said...

Don't you hate when that happens. Most often I try to step to the side in cases when mirror anything is involved. Happy weekend. And did you say 700 photos?

Sarah said...

Anne, that's happened to me more than once when I've tried to photograph silver objects. Any words of wisdom here?
Congratulations on finishing up the edit. 700 photos is amazing! ~ Sarah

I think your images are wonderful, even if you feel like you are still learning. 700 images...Wowza! Do you ever stop and wonder what we ever did before digital cameras? I remember it used to take me forever to finish a 24 roll of film. Now I take 24 photos in like 2 minutes. Have a great weekend!

How do we solve the Problem of the Pink Balls??

Help me! Please!

Congrats to Kathryn!

we all do it, or have done it ... it is pretty cute, tho, cuz you're cute

Dorthe said...

Oh Anne,
I think that happens when we are all exited about what we are doing,-then we -sometimes -forget to think!!--and then something charming like this happens---BUT -I KNOW it is not what you wanted from an else fantastic shoot.
Happy week-end anyway, sweet.

Anne,

Too funny, or not so much depending on your perspective, but I did the same thing last week! There I was big as Dallas bad hair day and all shining on the side of a silver sugar scuttle! Now I ask you, how do you get the shot you want without capturing your own image? Congrats to the book winner! I ordered one for myself and one for my daughter can't wait to get my hands on it. Have a happy Saturday!

Tins and Treasures said...

Good Morning, Anne,
Sooo...do you have a secret for how not to catch your reflection in the object that you are shooting? This happens to me when I take photos of our wine bottle necklaces for my Etsy shop. I can sometimes see myself in the bottle...

Congratulations to the winner of your book. And, thanks for the link to Maria's shop...I'm heading there next. Happy Weekend. ~Natalie

I catch myself all the time in ornaments or mercury glass candlesticks. If I'm not feeling too lazy I use the heeling tool on PS.

Congrats to the winner!

That was cute, Anne. We'll have to find you a lace drape or something to pull over yourself when you're taking pictures of shiny, reflective things. You can peek out a hole in it! ;-)

Haha! That happened to me too when I was shooting my Christmas decorations this year! All of the ones from this one spot I took had my reflection in them so I couldn't use any and I never went back and reshot them! Love Maria's new shop!
