Swirly Silver Sunday

It's been said that necessity is the mother of invention, so when I picked up this absolutely gorgeous swirly, Sheridan Silver candelabra at an estate sale yesterday, I knew that I'd better get inventive.

Why, you ask?

Broken. But still beautiful, just like my sweet little Frozen Charlotte head perched atop it.

Hey, I'm a junker, ain't no way I'm gonna let a little something like that stand between me and a badazz, tarnished silver treasure!

So I cozied up to my buddy Jason who is on the estate sale staff, and acting all cool and non-interested, I nonchalantly asked "How much for the broken old candelabra in the garage"?

I think he was on to me, so he said with a twinkle in his eye,
"For you? $4.50!"

SOLD!

I may solder the broken piece back on, or I may not...I happen to think Charlotte looks pretty killer right where she is.

Don't you?!

To see everyone else's scrumptious silver, head on over to Beth (not Betty!) at
for Silver Sunday, going on now through February 7th.

And the lovely Jill at
is having a wonderful, Silver Sunday themed giveaway over at her blog!
She's offering one lucky winner one of her silver blackboard trays next Sunday, the 17th.

I've got my entry in, you be sure to do the same!

Anne sweetie...
I say leave the little cherub up there. She is your element of SURPRISE. They say in every good arrangement there should be an element of surprise, and she is. I just love the detail on her face. Who would've thought?

You sneaky little thing you $4.50. If I had been with you, I would've slapped my money down there so fast, oh that is so beautiful.

I can't believe you haven't already started polishing to see what is underneath all that tarnish. Or are you going to leave it antiqued as such?

Thanks for sharing sweetie. Great find. Love it. Country hugs...Sherry

Anne ~ You snagged a great bargain - even with its problems, it still has that swirly elegance and la-de-da-ness. I've heard that the glue called E-6000 works well on metals--just an idea.

Have a Beautifully Blessed 2010...

Love Charlotte all perched up there, and Cynthia is right, a dab of E6000 will keep it on as long as you don't "trip the light fantastic" with it. Either way it's a gorgeous piece. So what other bargains did you come home with on your day of fun?
Hope it's warmer today!

Hey I have these candelabras too! I am a Silver Freak!! all of my vintage Family photos infact all of my Family photos are in a variety of silver frames..yes they all have to be constantly maintained as you well know, but I love, love love them. I can't get enough Silver, but vintage only of course...not sleek and modern. I'll have to post my silver hotel desk bell from the Hotel Del Coranado...it is so kool and it makes a really classic ""cling" ""cling"" sound when you pop your finger down on it! Tre' FUN!
Aloha wishes for a peacefull Sunday

Personally, I think Charlotte looks a little weird there. If you can't repair it, maybe you could just grind the broken stub down smooth and make it look like it was made that way. There are several ways to promote fast tarnishing to blend in the grind spot. (Google is your friend.)

Just gorgeous! I do the same thing - I upcycle just about any damaged or junk piece that I can find...

Hi Anne:
LOVE your new piece. Charlotte is fun up there, but I might try to reattach the old candle holder (if I were able to do such a thing - which I'm not). I'm not saying Charlotte isn't a beauty, but she looks a little sci-fi on top of the candelabra.

Thanks for correcting (my) error about "Betty". I guess I was duped by her script. Appreciate the correction, though and I went and fixed it in my posts.

Have a great day. See you again soon.
Donna

Anne Lorys said...

Hey Donna!
No, the correction was for me, not you! I called her Betty last Sunday. I didn't know that you had, too! ;-)

Anne

O boy...what a beautiful bargin you got. Now me...I would have my Wrights Silver Polish out in a flash and have that beauty shined up like nobody's business !! But then, I happen to like SHINY..:)
OK, truth here..I am nothing if not truthful..
I don't care for body parts that aren't attached...they just creep me out a bit. I don't like praying hands that have no body....or candles coming out of angels heads...I would try to either have the piece soLdered back or maybe use that metal glue..I think the name of it is JB WELD. But, this is just MY opinion...
Thanks for the heads up on the giveaway..

Hi All!
Well, like I said, I only got the candelabra on Friday, so I haven't had time to do much of anything with it yet. I like weird and spooky, so I may leave it as is, or I might go all traditional and bust out the industrial strength glue. Depends on my mood. My husband just smiles and shrugs, so he's no help, LOL!

Keep those opinions and comments coming! :-)

Ha! I've had a good giggle just reading through everyone's comments here. Love the candelabra; but not digging Charlotte so much. Seems spooky and I don't like spooky anymore. Hope you are having a Super Sunday! Blessings, Tammy

hehehe on the candelabra, reminds me of Toy Story. Your creativity is lots of fun to see. I would leave it as is, Charlotte on top. Happy Silver Sunday.

Great deal on that pretty candelabra, Anne! It will for sure look great with a candle but I love the unexpected Charlotte too. Does she keep an eye on Buster ... ;)?

HI Anne,
So glad I found your blog! I love your new find, those swirly arms are fantastic, my favorite part. Charlotte is adorable, but I think she needs a different body. Otherwise she's like the female "Lumiere" (from beautiy and the beast!). Not so good...!
I wonder if I have enough silver to join in the party, it looks like fun, I've seen some really great things. Anyway, I'd love for you to stop by for a visit sometime!

I'm totally voting for keeping Charlotte! Love it.

And yes, we do need to get together! Name the time and place and I'm there. You've got to take me to some of your places because, you are so right, there isn't much in SA at all. (I have NO problem driving to Kerrville or anywhere else...I grew up in Houston and it took at least an hour to get anywhere, so going to Kerrville, Frederickburg, Gruene or even going to Austin to get some Bubble Tea is no big deal at all.)

Hi Anne,
Charlotte has curves in all the right places. That is so cute. You really scored with this one. $4.50, what a great deal!

Thanks for you nice compliments on my painting. I am not good with fixing up my blog..I have wishes to do better but I seem to find that Im jumping from blog to blog and not learning to take care of my own. I am also a junker and have a space at an antique store...I love love it.I think I have visited you before...So I will go explore some more on yours. I like your chandelier..keep the frozen charlote. I think I would like it either way. It is quite a find. Now to polish or not to polish? Again, you could go either way, depending on your use of it.
I just loved visiting your blog.

I think you're onto something big with little Charlotte. If you leave it 'as is', you can stick a colored egg on top for Easter, a pumpkin for Halloween, you get the drift. My kind of find, too!
